چکیده

Vascular grafts based on permeable textile structures are now a widely accepted technology. The performance of the graft is largely dependent on the ability to allow controlled blood to flow through its thickness, yet predicting this flow rate is still not widely understood. An analytical model is in development based on fabric construction parameters, with the aim being to predict the permeability of a porous textile substrate with specific application to vascular graft materials. To verify the model, novel testing equipment is in place to evaluate air and fluid permeabilies of specially designed fabrics with varying constructions.

Relationship between flow and incidence of thrombosis in polytetrafluoroethylene vascular grafts in free microvascular flaps in lambs.

We have done an experimental study in lambs in which we investigated the influence of flow rate on free microvascular flaps using polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) vascular grafts. We set up five surgical groups in which blood flow was progressively increased through the PTFE vascular graft. In group I (venous autograft) we observed just one vascular thrombosis which was located at the site of the...

Analysis of coronary vascular resistance and blood flow of venous graft in coronary artery bypass grafting.

OBJECTIVE The aim of this study was to assess the coronary vascular resistance (CVR) and to analyze the flow differences through grafts in coronary artery bypass graft surgery. METHODS Between 17 June and 15 July 2005, we assessed the coronary vascular resistance profile in 10 patients undergoing coronary artery bypass graft surgery by grafting a section of saphenous vein and checking CVR dir...

Blood flow in composite arterial grafts and effect of native coronary flow.

BACKGROUND Total arterial coronary revascularization can be achieved by joining arteries together as a composite graft with the proximal left internal mammary artery as the only source of blood inflow. Proof of the capacity of this composite conduit to provide adequate blood flow to the coronary circulation is required. METHODS The radial artery was anastomosed to the left internal mammary ar...

Mathematical modeling of blood flow in a stenosed artery under MHD effect through porous medium

In this investigation, a mathematical model for studying oscillatory flow of blood in a stenosed artery under the influence of transverse magnetic field through porous medium has been developed. The equations of motion of blood flow are solved analytically. The analytical expressions for axial velocity, volumetric flow rate, pressure gradient, resistance to blood flow and shear stress have been...

Experimental study of histological changes in vascular loops according to the duration of the postoperative period: Application in reconstructive microsurgery

OBJECTIVES To analyze the histological changes observed in venous grafts subjected to arterial blood flow as a function of the duration of the postoperative period to optimize their use in free flap reconstructions. METHOD Twenty-five rats (7 females and 18 males) underwent surgery. Surgeries were performed on one animal per week. Five weeks after the first surgery, the same five animals were...
